Darren Rizzi has been appointed as the new special teams coordinator for the Denver Broncos, reuniting him with head coach Sean Payton, with whom he previously worked at the New Orleans Saints. Rizzi served as the Saints' interim head coach after Dennis Allen's firing, leading the team to a 3-5 record to finish the season with a 5-12 overall mark. Before his stint with the Saints, Rizzi spent a decade with the Miami Dolphins and has a strong background in special teams coaching. The Broncos parted ways with their previous special teams coach, Ben Kotwica, following a playoff season in which they showed improvement. Rizzi's hiring comes after he interviewed for the Saints' head coach position, which ultimately went to Kellen Moore. His familiarity with Payton and past success in special teams roles are expected to bolster the Broncos as they aim for further progress in the upcoming season.
