Sundance 2025 Awards $84,000 in Grants, Recognizes Key Filmmakers

At the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, Cristina Costantini received the juried Feature Film Prize for her documentary 'SALLY,' which explores the life of Sally Ride, the first American woman in space. In addition to Costantini, three artists were awarded grants: Ella Gale for 'Greenwashers,' Katla Sólnes for 'Eruption,' and Brittany Wang for 'Thin Ice,' with a total of $84,000 in cash prizes distributed. The awards highlight the partnership between the Sundance Institute and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, aimed at recognizing artists who connect art and science in their storytelling. Costantini was also involved in a panel discussion addressing the barriers faced by scientists and engineers, emphasizing the intersection of cultural challenges and cinematic narratives. Amanda Kelso, the Sundance Institute's acting CEO, expressed gratitude for the foundation's support in promoting such vital discussions. Additionally, the Center for Asian American Media announced a new fund to support documentaries that represent U.S. Muslim communities, further diversifying the narratives showcased at the festival.
