WestJet, Lufthansa Technik Sign Multi-Billion-Dollar Engine Maintenance Deal

WestJet has inked a landmark 15-year, multi-billion-dollar agreement with Lufthansa Technik for the maintenance of its Boeing 737 fleet's LEAP-1B engines, with operations set to commence in 2027. A new engine repair facility will be established in Calgary, featuring Canada's first modern test cell for next-generation engines, which is expected to enhance operational efficiency and create jobs in the region. WestJet CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech emphasized the importance of this partnership in supporting the Alberta economy and improving cost certainty. The deal marks WestJet's largest maintenance contract to date and positions the airline as the launch customer for the new facility. This collaboration is seen as a significant advancement in Canada's aviation maintenance landscape, setting new industry standards. Previously, WestJet had contracted Lufthansa Technik for maintenance of its CFM56-7B engines, further solidifying their partnership.
