Getty Center Evacuated Amid Palisades Fire
The Getty Center and Getty Villa in Los Angeles remain unharmed amidst the ongoing Palisades Fire, which has prompted expanded evacuation orders affecting their vicinity. As of Saturday, the fire has consumed over 22,000 acres and destroyed more than 5,000 structures, resulting in at least 11 fatalities. The Getty Center, known for its extensive collection of European art, has been designed with fire-resistant materials and features advanced safety measures, ensuring the protection of its artworks. Museum officials reported that while the evacuation order is in effect, their buildings have not sustained damage, and emergency staff are on-site. The Getty Villa had already been in a precautionary evacuation zone prior to these developments, and both museums will remain closed until at least January 16. The J. Paul Getty Trust has expressed their commitment to the safety of the collections and the surrounding community during this crisis.
