Malaysian Navy Ship KD Pendekar Sinks Near Johor

The KD Pendekar, a 45-year-old Malaysian naval fast-attack craft, sank off the coast of Johor after hitting an unknown underwater object, leading to severe flooding. All 39 crew members were safely evacuated with no injuries reported before the ship was completely submerged at approximately 3:54 PM on August 25. An investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the leak that first appeared in the engine room, and salvage operations are currently underway. Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin has ordered inspections of older naval vessels and emphasized ongoing fleet modernization efforts, including future acquisitions. The navy has urged the public to avoid speculation regarding the incident and will provide updates through official channels. Environmental monitoring teams have also been dispatched to the site as a precautionary measure.
