China's Origin Wukong fine-tunes billion-parameter AI model

Chinese researchers have achieved a groundbreaking milestone by fine-tuning a billion-parameter AI model using the Origin Wukong, the country's advanced superconducting quantum computer. This experiment marks the first instance of a superconducting quantum computer being applied to real-world AI tasks, demonstrating the potential of quantum computing to enhance model training efficiency. The results indicated an 8.4% improvement in training performance despite a 76% reduction in model parameters, showcasing the ability of quantum resources to complement classical AI methodologies. Notably, accuracy on a mathematical reasoning task increased significantly from 68% to 82%.
