Truck Spill Closes Westbound I-26 Spartanburg Hours
A truck overturned on Interstate 26 near mile marker 26 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, spilling chicken carcasses and blocking all westbound lanes for nearly 12 hours. The driver, who fell asleep at the wheel and hit a cable barrier, was cited for driving too fast for conditions but was not injured. The South Spartanburg Fire District and the South Carolina Department of Transportation conducted an extensive cleanup involving sand trucks to clear the animal remains from the roadway. Authorities urged drivers to avoid the area during the prolonged closure. This incident caused significant traffic standstill but no injuries were reported related to the crash. Similar unusual cargo spills have previously caused highway shutdowns in other states.
