Cain Velasquez Sentenced to 5 Years for Shooting at Alleged Child Molester

Cain Velasquez, the former UFC heavyweight champion, was sentenced to five years in prison for attempted murder and related charges stemming from a 2022 shooting incident. Velasquez pursued Harry Goularte, who is accused of molesting his four-year-old son, firing multiple shots at the vehicle carrying Goularte and two others during an 11-mile high-speed chase in Northern California. Although prosecutors sought a sentence of up to 30 years, Velasquez received credit for time already served, meaning he may spend less than two years in prison. During sentencing, the judge acknowledged the complexities of the case, stressing the danger posed to bystanders, including schoolchildren, during the incident. Velasquez's attorney maintained that he is a devoted father who has faced a traumatic situation, while the Velasquez family is also pursuing civil action against Goularte and his family. Goularte, meanwhile, remains free on GPS monitoring as he awaits trial on child molestation charges.
