Westport Photographers Win National Awards at AIB Press Contest

Two photographers from Westport, Conor McKeown and Michael McLaughlin, have received national recognition at the AIB Press Photographer of the Year Awards, with McKeown winning Nature Photograph of the Year for his image titled 'Feeling Blue' and McLaughlin being honored as Portrait Photographer of the Year for 'Forging Friendships.' The awards highlight the talent emerging from Westport, as both photographers' works are now featured in the Irish Times. Meanwhile, the Milwaukee County Historical Society is producing a documentary that chronicles the history of Milwaukee's Black community, beginning with early settlers and including contemporary movements. The project seeks community contributions of historical photographs and home movies to authentically depict everyday life in the Black community. Additionally, a tribute to Harry Kemp, a notable Milwaukee photojournalist who documented the Black experience and mentored aspiring photographers, emphasizes his significant impact on the city’s cultural history. Kemp, who passed away in 2011, is remembered for his dedication and the legacy he left behind in the field of photography.
