Met Police Officer Dismissed for Racist Tweets

Metropolitan Police officer PC Ruby Begum has been dismissed without notice following a misconduct hearing that found her guilty of gross misconduct due to a series of racist and offensive tweets posted between 2013 and 2019. These tweets included derogatory remarks about Jewish people, such as 'Dirty Zionists. Hell is waiting', and derogatory terms for non-Muslims. Despite her claims that the comments were made out of immaturity and suggested a final warning as a sufficient penalty, the panel deemed them as 'derogatory', 'abusive', and reflective of 'deep-seated personal beliefs'. Begum, who joined the Met as a Special Constable in 2014, denied gross misconduct but admitted to posting offensive content. Her case was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct and investigated locally, leading to her being placed on the College of Policing's barred list.
