Court Sentences Peter Nwachukwu to Death for Homicide of Osinachi

Peter Nwachukwu, husband of the late gospel singer Osinachi, has been sentenced to death by hanging after being found guilty of culpable homicide, which led to her death on April 8, 2022. Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory delivered the judgment, following a trial in which the prosecution presented 17 witnesses, including two of the couple's children, and 25 documentary exhibits. Nwachukwu was arraigned on a 23-count charge, including spousal battery, cruelty to children, and criminal intimidation, in addition to homicide. While his defense pleaded for leniency, the court imposed additional sentences: two years each for several other counts, six months for one count, three years for another, and fines totaling N700,000.
