Angels Activate Zach Neto, Designate Nicky Lopez

The Los Angeles Angels have officially activated 24-year-old shortstop Zach Neto from the injured list following his recovery from offseason right shoulder surgery. Neto missed all of spring training but impressed during a 13-game rehab assignment at Triple-A Salt Lake, hitting .286 with four home runs and eight RBIs. His return is expected to provide a major offensive boost over Tim Anderson and Kevin Newman, who have struggled at shortstop. The Angels, averaging just 2.3 runs per game since April 10, hope Neto's presence will help revive their lineup as they begin a series against the San Francisco Giants. To clear a roster spot, utility player Nicky Lopez was designated for assignment. Manager Ron Washington praised Neto's dedication and eagerness to return to play.
