This demonstration coincided with the anniversary of a petition submission that garnered over 100,000 signatures for a public referendum on the facility. Supporters of the $90 million project argue it is necessary to replace outdated training facilities and improve police recruitment. However, opponents express concerns about potential police militarization and the facility's location in a majority-Black area. The protest lasted about six minutes before the live video feed of the meeting was cut. A federal lawsuit regarding the referendum is currently pending.
