Family Files Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Inglewood Aviation College

The family of Dr. Cameisha Clark, the dean of students at Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology in Inglewood, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the college, security companies, and Jesse Figueroa, the campus security guard who fatally shot her in May 2025. The lawsuit alleges negligence in hiring Figueroa, a six-time felon with an expired security license, without conducting proper background checks, despite his criminal history including a 2007 robbery conviction. Clark was targeted in a case of workplace violence, and the college denies directly employing Figueroa, claiming he worked for contracted security companies. Inglewood Mayor James Butts confirmed Clark was the primary target, emphasizing the incident was not random. Figueroa faces charges including murder, attempted murder, and possession of a firearm as a felon, and he remains jailed on $5 million bail. The family and their attorney question how a person with such a criminal record and expired license was allowed to work as an on-campus security guard, highlighting failures in the college's and security companies' hiring and safety practices.
