Eileen Gu, the double Olympic gold medalist and freestyle skiing star, has announced her withdrawal from the upcoming Asian Winter Games in Harbin due to injuries sustained at the Winter X Games in Aspen. The 21-year-old athlete, who became a global icon during the Beijing Winter Olympics, expressed her disappointment on social media, stating that she suffered a severe contusion from a fall in January and subsequently incurred another injury during training. Gu had been anticipated to be a major contender for Team China at the Games, which begin on February 7. She emphasized her commitment to rehabilitation and hopes to return to competition soon. The Asian Winter Games are taking place for the first time since 2017, with 1,275 athletes from 34 countries participating. Gu previously made history by winning three medals at a single Winter Olympics, underlining her status as a key figure in the sport.
