UK, New Zealand Secure £30M Drone Deal for Ukraine

The UK and New Zealand have announced a major joint initiative to supply Ukraine with advanced unmanned systems as part of their ongoing support in the conflict against Russia. Under new contracts valued at approximately £30 million, New Zealand's SYOS Aerospace will manufacture and assemble drones at its UK facility in Hampshire, creating jobs and supporting local industry. These drones, including heavy-lift unmanned helicopters and VTOL intelligence aircraft with autonomous navigation and swarm capabilities, are intended to enhance Ukraine's battlefield capabilities. The partnership reflects deepening bilateral ties, with both countries increasing defense spending and committing to update their joint defense partnership. Furthermore, New Zealand will extend its participation in Operation Interflex, a UK-led program that has already trained over 54,000 Ukrainian soldiers. The collaboration underscores the broader strategic alliance within the Coalition of the Willing and an emphasis on linking defense investment to national and economic security.
