Air India Ahmedabad Crash Kills 246 Including 241 Onboard
A Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner operated by Air India crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, India, killing 241 of the 242 passengers and crew aboard, as well as several people on the ground. The sole survivor, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a British national seated near the emergency exit, described the terrifying moments before the crash, including a loud noise and unusual plane behavior. The aircraft collided with a medical college hostel, causing additional ground casualties, and DNA testing is underway to identify victims. Indian officials, including Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah, met with Ramesh at the hospital, while Air India announced significant compensation for the victims' families and a probe has been launched. The tragedy has shocked communities in both India and the UK, with local leaders and public figures expressing condolences and emphasizing support for affected families. The U.S. is sending investigators due to the American-made aircraft, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
