Gene Hackman, Betsy Arakawa Found Dead in Rodent-Infested Home

Recently released bodycam footage and photographs from the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office reveal the tragic circumstances surrounding the deaths of actor Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa. The couple, aged 95 and 65, were found dead in their cluttered home on February 26, with Arakawa having died a week earlier from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, while Hackman's death was attributed to heart disease and advanced Alzheimer's. The footage shows their home in disarray, with dead rodents and clutter throughout, including personal items scattered around. One of their dogs was found alive next to Arakawa, while another dog died in a crate due to dehydration. Investigators ruled out carbon monoxide poisoning as a cause of death, and noted that Hackman may not have been aware of his wife's passing due to his condition. The couple had been incredibly private, with little contact from family members leading up to their deaths.
