Multiple Deadly Crashes Across Three States
Multiple fatal crashes were reported this week across South Carolina, Virginia and Kentucky. In Henrico County, Va., state police say a pickup on southbound I-295 suffered a tire blowout near mile marker 26, ran off the road, overturned over a guardrail and landed on train tracks, killing the sole occupant; some reports identified him as 54-year-old Jacob Scott Southers and investigators are continuing to probe the crash. In Chesapeake, a single-vehicle pickup crash at Centerville Turnpike and Hickory Road left the driver dead and remains under investigation. In Dorchester County, S.C., early Saturday a southbound Toyota struck a Hyundai on I-95 near mile marker 78 around 3:30 a.m., killing the Hyundai driver and hospitalizing the Toyota driver. In Georgetown County on Friday evening a northbound Buick ran off Old Pee Dee Road near Hicks Drive, struck a fence and tree, and the driver was pronounced dead. In Greenup County, Ky., a four-vehicle crash on U.S. 23/Whetstone Road killed Frank William Ball II and sent others to hospitals as Kentucky State Police work the scene.
