Ten Former FCI Dublin Guards Charged with Inmate Sexual Abuse

Two former correctional officers, Jeffrey Wilson and Lawrence Gacad, have been charged with sexually abusing female inmates at the now-closed Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Dublin, bringing the total number of guards charged in this ongoing investigation to ten. Wilson faces five counts of sexual abuse related to repeated abuse of an inmate in the prison's medical room in 2022, as well as charges for lying to federal agents about his conduct and giving contraband to an inmate. Gacad is charged with one count of abusive sexual contact during the same year. The prison, which was permanently closed in 2024 due to toxic conditions including hazardous mold and asbestos, has been the subject of widespread outrage and legal action, including a class-action lawsuit by inmates and over $100 million in settlement payments. Several other staff members at various levels, including the former warden and chaplain, have been convicted or pleaded guilty to related crimes, with some already serving prison sentences. The scandal has highlighted systemic abuse and retaliation against inmates who spoke up, prompting federal oversight and the prison's closure.
