Nineteen New Banking Hubs Planned Across UK After Santander Closures

Following the announcement of significant branch closures by Santander, cash access network LINK has recommended 19 new banking hubs across the UK, including locations in Urmston, Sussex, and Aberdeenshire. These hubs aim to provide essential banking services in areas losing traditional branches, allowing customers from various banks to withdraw and deposit cash, make bill payments, and access private consultations with community bankers. The establishment of banking hubs comes as a response to increasing community demand for cash access, with LINK having assessed nearly 1,900 branch closures since 2022. The UK Government has committed to establishing 350 banking hubs during the current parliamentary session, with 139 already operational. Local MPs and community members have expressed relief and support for the new hubs, emphasizing their importance for residents and small businesses. The banking hubs are designed to ensure continued access to cash, particularly for those who rely on face-to-face banking services.
