Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the signing of a historic peace agreement with the insurgent groups NLFT and ATTF, marking the end of a 35-year insurgency in Tripura. The pact will see over 328 insurgents lay down their arms and receive a Rs 250 crore development package for their reintegration. This agreement is part of a broader effort by PM Modi's government to bring peace and development to the Northeast, with 12 similar accords signed since 2019. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and other senior officials were present at the signing ceremony. Additionally, the Tripura government has declared the state a natural calamity-affected area due to severe floods, resulting in significant fatalities and displacement.
