A significant fire broke out at a recycling centre on Jockey Lane in Elkesley, Nottinghamshire, on Wednesday evening, prompting an emergency response from approximately 80 firefighters and multiple fire engines. The blaze, which involved around 10,000 tonnes of timber, scrap metal, and machinery, was reported around 7:43 PM BST. Fire crews from various areas, including Mansfield and Ashfield, worked throughout the night to contain the incident, with some still on-site for dampening down operations the following morning. Local residents were advised to keep doors and windows closed due to smoke, and Jockey Lane was closed in both directions to facilitate emergency services. An investigation into the cause of the fire is set to begin later today, but no injuries have been reported so far. Fire officials urged drivers to avoid the area to prevent obstructing emergency access.
