Man Arrested After Accidental Shooting of Boy in Linn County, Iowa
Two separate shooting incidents occurred in Mount Vernon, involving different individuals and victims. On June 29, Sean Emery Stewart, 40, allegedly fired three shots at a male victim's vehicle, injuring the victim's right forearm; Stewart was later arrested and charged with attempted assault and weapons offenses. In a separate incident on July 7, Kevin Gouchee, 62, shot a 12-year-old boy in the back of the head with birdshot, mistaking the movement behind bushes for a groundhog; the boy sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized. Gouchee, a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms, was charged with reckless use of a firearm and is being held in Linn County Jail with other charges possible. Both cases remain under investigation, with law enforcement agencies actively involved in processing the scenes and charges.
