Multiple Pedestrians Killed Across U.S. and U.K.
A string of pedestrian collisions across the U.S. and U.K. has left multiple people dead and others injured, prompting criminal cases and appeals for witnesses. In Orlando, Fla., the Florida Highway Patrol is searching for a hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a pedestrian on Colonial Drive near Semoran Boulevard the evening of Oct. 1 and is asking anyone with information to contact FHP or CrimeLine. In New Orleans, a pedestrian was killed after being struck by an 18-wheeler on Paris Road near the Green Bridge and Louisiana State Police have taken over the investigation; in Wheeling, Ill., a 71-year-old man died after being struck by a Ford Explorer and that probe remains active with no charges filed so far. Hilo police reclassified an Aug. 2 crash from negligent injury to negligent homicide after the pedestrian later died; 56-year-old Robester Annes—initially arrested for negligent injury and DUI—has been released pending further investigation as alcohol and inattention are considered factors. In Bradford, England, 28-year-old Robert Nagoda was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and related offenses after a 68-year-old man was fatally struck and police are seeking witnesses and dashcam footage; in Long Beach, Calif., 60-year-old Marco Duarte-Gonzalez died after a March 30 crosswalk collision in which the driver stayed and cooperated; and in Omaha a 47-year-old pedestrian was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after being struck near 24th and Ames Streets.
