LG Innotek Takes $50M Stake in US LiDAR Maker Aeva
LG Innotek has formed a strategic partnership with U.S.-based Aeva Technologies, involving a $50 million investment that grants LG Innotek a single-digit equity stake in Aeva. The collaboration focuses on developing and commercializing next-generation Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) 4D LiDAR technology, which offers advanced sensing capabilities by detecting both 3D positions and instantaneous velocities, enhancing autonomous vehicle and robotics safety and intelligence. LG Innotek will supply ultra-slim, long-range FMCW LiDAR modules capable of detecting objects up to 500 meters, enabling more flexible vehicle design by embedding modules behind windshields. The partnership aims to co-develop future FMCW LiDAR systems by 2027, expanding applications beyond automotive to include robotics, industrial automation, and consumer devices. Both companies emphasize a long-term technology collaboration to lead the growing LiDAR market, projected to reach $15.4 billion by 2030. This deal also includes investments to increase production capacity and accelerate mass adoption of affordable, precision sensing solutions.
