Joe Eatmon unseats Matthew Wilson in Tuscaloosa District 1 runoff

Joe Eatmon has won the District 1 seat on the Tuscaloosa City Council, defeating incumbent Matthew Wilson in a runoff election on April 1, receiving 582 votes to Wilson's 407. This victory marks Eatmon's first foray into city politics, as he previously served as the Dean of Community Relations at Shelton State Community College. Wilson, who held the seat since 2021, acknowledged the loss and plans to remain a voice in the community. The election campaign was competitive, with Eatmon narrowly advancing from the initial round where he faced multiple candidates. His inauguration is scheduled for May 19.
