Militants killed in Kashmir

On November 2, 2024, three militants were killed and four security personnel injured during separate gunbattles in Kashmir. The first encounter occurred in Srinagar's Khaniyar area, marking the first such incident in over two years, where security forces exchanged fire with a militant suspected to be a foreigner. In a separate operation in Anantnag district, two militants were killed after troops acted on specific intelligence regarding their presence. The Indian Army confirmed that the operations were initiated following suspicious movements observed in both areas. Additionally, there has been a notable increase in violence, including targeted attacks on migrant laborers in the region. Both India and Pakistan claim Kashmir, which has been a flashpoint for conflict since 1947, with many Kashmiris supporting the militants' calls for independence or union with Pakistan.
