Google has launched the Google News Initiative (GNI) AI Skills Academy in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) to prepare Indian newsrooms and media educators for an AI-powered future. This 10-week hybrid training program aims to provide foundational knowledge and practical skills in AI, focusing on the use of Google's AI tools such as NotebookLM, Gemini, AI Studio, and Pinpoint to enhance newsroom efficiency and storytelling. The program includes weekly deep dives, hands-on exercises, mentorship, and problem-solving sessions, empowering participants to integrate AI into their editorial workflows effectively. Supported by training from How India Lives and spanning IIMC campuses in six cities, the initiative underscores Google's commitment to fostering responsible AI innovation and boosting creativity in journalism across India. This collaboration marks a significant step toward equipping media professionals with essential AI capabilities to adapt to the evolving landscape of journalism. Google and IIMC aim to help news organizations stay ahead amid the transformative impact of AI on the media industry.
