Resorts World, MGM Empire City Win Unanimous Approval for $7.8B NY Casino Licenses
Two existing New York State gaming venues, Resorts World New York City (RWNYC) and MGM Empire City, have been unanimously approved by their Community Advisory Committees (CACs) to advance their proposals for commercial casino licenses. MGM Empire City plans a $2.3 billion transformation of its Yonkers racino into a commercial casino and entertainment destination, while Resorts World NYC aims to expand into a $5.5 billion integrated resort, significantly increasing its workforce and economic impact. Both casinos have demonstrated strong public support and have contributed billions to New York State education funds through taxes since their openings. The proposals now move to the New York Gaming Facility Location Board, which will award up to three downstate casino licenses by the end of the year, with Metropolitan Park in Queens also considered a strong contender. The unanimous CAC votes underscore the readiness and community backing of RWNYC and MGM Empire City, positioning them as frontrunners in the licensing process. The developments are expected to generate substantial new revenue and job opportunities, marking major economic growth projects for New York.
