MP Mike Amesbury Pleads Guilty to Assault

Suspended Labour MP Mike Amesbury has pleaded guilty to common assault following an incident where he punched a man on the street. The altercation, which involved multiple blows and was recorded on CCTV, occurred on October 26 last year in Frodsham, Cheshire. Amesbury, who now serves as an Independent MP, was suspended from the Labour Party after footage of the attack emerged. During the court proceedings, he claimed to have felt threatened prior to the incident. Prime Minister Keir Starmer had previously described the footage as shocking and defended the swift suspension of Amesbury from the party. Amesbury was summoned to court to face a section 39 assault charge after the case was referred to prosecutors.
