Tata Power Plans 80 MW Hybrid Clean Energy Project Boosting Mumbai Grid
Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has signed a Power Purchase Agreement with Tata Power Mumbai Distribution to develop an 80 MW Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) project in Mumbai. This hybrid project, integrating solar, wind, and battery storage technologies, will generate approximately 315 million units of electricity annually and provide four hours of peak power supply with 90% availability, enhancing grid stability and ensuring reliable clean energy to around 800,000 customers. The initiative, backed by an investment of around INR 1,200 crore and expected to be completed within 24 months, aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 250,000 tons annually and support Mumbai's growing energy needs. This project will help Tata Power Mumbai Distribution meet its Renewable Purchase Obligation under state regulations and aligns with India's broader goals of increasing non-fossil fuel capacity and decarbonizing the grid. TPREL's renewable capacity now stands at 11.3 GW, including a significant portfolio of operational and under-implementation solar and wind projects, reinforcing its leadership in India's renewable energy sector. The development underscores Tata Power's commitment to sustainable, reliable, and resilient urban energy solutions.
