Boulder Firebomb Victim Dies; Suspect Faces Murder Charges
Karen Diamond, an 82-year-old woman severely injured in a Molotov cocktail attack during a pro-Israel hostages rally in Boulder, Colorado, has died from her injuries, prompting prosecutors to upgrade charges against Mohamed Sabry Soliman to include two counts of first-degree murder. Soliman, a 45-year-old Egyptian national, faces nearly a hundred state charges including attempted murder, assault, use of incendiary devices, and animal cruelty, as well as 12 federal hate crime and explosives charges. The attack targeted demonstrators participating in the Run For Our Lives event, organized to raise awareness for Israeli hostages held by Hamas, and was reportedly premeditated with Soliman disguised and equipped with multiple Molotov cocktails. Prosecutors have identified 29 victims in total, 13 of whom sustained physical injuries, and have added 66 new charges following further investigation. Authorities revealed Soliman had planned the attack for over a year, motivated by anti-Zionist sentiments, and that his family members have been taken into ICE custody for deportation proceedings. The Boulder community, including Jewish leaders and Colorado Governor Jared Polis, have expressed deep sorrow over Diamond's death and emphasized unity in response to this violent and hate-driven attack.
