Stellantis Meets UK ZEV Mandate Targets

Stellantis has met the UK government's Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate for 2024, successfully selling 39,492 electric cars, which marks a 59% increase compared to 2023. The company achieved a 10% share of the electric car market, with strong sales attributed to its extensive lineup of 30 electric vehicles across 11 brands. Despite this success, Stellantis announced plans to close its Vauxhall van factory in Luton, risking 1,100 jobs, which it blamed on the stringent ZEV mandate. The ZEV mandate requires 22% of new cars and 10% of new vans sold to be zero-emission, with these percentages set to rise annually, reaching 80% for cars and 70% for vans by 2030. The UK government is considering changes to the rules to ease compliance for manufacturers. Stellantis emphasized the need for greater consumer encouragement from the government to meet future targets.
