XPeng Plans Global Mona EV Launch Targeting Europe 2026
Chinese electric vehicle maker XPeng is accelerating its global expansion with plans to launch its affordable Mona brand in Europe and other international markets in 2026. The debut Mona M03 model, an electric hatchback coupe priced between 119,800 and 155,800 yuan (approximately $17,000), was launched in China in 2024 and now accounts for about half of XPeng's domestic sales. CEO He Xiaopeng highlighted the company’s strategy to offer more affordable Mona models globally, aiming to capture the cost-conscious segment amid rising EV demand and intense competition from both Chinese rivals like BYD and established automakers such as Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz. XPeng is also expanding its presence in Europe with a new R&D center in Munich and is considering local manufacturing to counteract EU tariffs on China-made EVs. Additionally, He signaled openness to acquiring other electric car manufacturers to strengthen XPeng’s competitive position. This international push comes as Chinese EV makers gain traction overseas while Tesla's sales in Europe have been declining.
