Kewon Briggs Charged in Waco Homicide

Waco police have arrested 20-year-old Kewon Briggs in connection with the murder of 18-year-old Anthony Powe, who was shot on May 13, 2024. Officers responded to reports of a shooting at the 900 block of S. 12th Street, where they found Powe with multiple gunshot wounds and attempted life-saving measures before he was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The investigation revealed that Powe was affiliated with the Popout gang, while Briggs is associated with the rival Rockout gang. Evidence suggested a dispute between the two groups may have led to the shooting, with witnesses indicating Briggs was the shooter. Briggs was apprehended on January 8, 2025, and is facing a first-degree felony murder charge. This incident marks the sixth homicide investigation in Waco for the year 2024.
