Gaza Humanitarian Crisis Deepens Amid Diplomatic Appeals, Ceasefire Urgency

Germany's newly appointed Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has called for urgent and serious discussions towards a ceasefire in Gaza, describing the humanitarian situation as unbearable and emphasizing the need to free all hostages and ensure aid reaches Gaza's population. Wadephul, while reaffirming Germany's strong support for Israel, seeks clarity on the strategic objectives of the intensified fighting since March and is set to meet Israeli leaders to discuss these issues. Russian President Vladimir Putin also condemned the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, criticizing Israel's blockade on aid deliveries and reaffirming Russia’s support for a two-state solution based on international law. Speaking alongside Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Putin highlighted Russia's ongoing aid efforts and stressed the need to reduce tensions, while Abbas called for resuming humanitarian aid and expressed support for a ceasefire with Israel, rejecting foreign governance in Gaza. The Gaza conflict has resulted in over 52,000 Palestinian deaths since October 2023, with recent escalations breaking ceasefires and causing further casualties. These diplomatic efforts underscore the international concern over the escalating humanitarian catastrophe and the search for a resolution to the conflict.
