Packers' Keisean Nixon Reverses Kick Return Stance After Playoff Loss

Green Bay Packers cornerback Keisean Nixon, who was an All-Pro kickoff returner in 2022 and 2023, initially expressed a desire to stop returning kicks after a playoff loss in January 2025, citing his goal to be the team's top cornerback and frustration with his limited return opportunities and a critical fumble. However, during the team's organized team activities in June 2025, Nixon reconsidered and stated he is open to returning kicks if the team needs him, acknowledging he made his earlier comments in frustration. Nixon had a strong defensive season in 2024, starting 15 games and setting personal bests in tackles, sacks, and forced fumbles, which contributed to his wish to focus on defense. Despite the NFL's new kickoff rules moving touchbacks to the 35-yard line, Nixon doubts opponents will kick to him often, preferring to concede possession rather than risk a big return. The Packers have added other kickoff return options, including veteran Mecole Hardman and rookies Matthew Golden and Savion Williams, providing the coaching staff with multiple choices for special teams.
