Hull Ship Fire Prompts Evacuations, Major Disruption

A major fire erupted around 10:22am on a container ship carrying scrap metal at Hull's Albert Dock, producing thick smoke and a strong burning smell that spread across the city centre and reached as far as east Hull. Authorities urged residents and businesses to keep windows and doors closed due to hazardous conditions, which caused coughing and discomfort among locals. Emergency services, including four fire engines, an aerial platform, Hull Coastguard Rescue Team, and ambulance crews, responded promptly, and all crewmembers were safely accounted for. Road closures, diversions, and restrictions on access to local shops and businesses were implemented, while public transport routes were altered because of poor visibility. Some amenities closed and nearby areas were evacuated amid reports of chaos and confusion. Associated British Ports, which manages the port, confirmed its involvement in assisting emergency services.
