Malaysian Govt Plans Multiple Mechanisms for Targeted RON95 Subsidy

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Armizan Ali reassured that the purchase process would not be burdensome or cause long queues, with eligibility tied to the MyKad but payment methods diversified. Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution emphasized the importance of ensuring MyKad chips are functioning properly for identity verification at fuel stations, with same-day repairs available at National Registration Department offices, urging citizens to check their cards early. The scheme aligns with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's pledge under the MADANI government to reduce living costs, with RON95 petrol prices expected to drop to RM1.99 per litre. Meanwhile, former MP Tony Pua cautioned against relying heavily on the MyKad for subsidy claims due to security risks and the potential loss of identification documents at petrol stations.
