NASA Plans Mid-September Northrop Grumman CRS-23 ISS Resupply Launch
NASA is preparing for two upcoming resupply missions to the International Space Station (ISS) involving Northrop Grumman and SpaceX. The Northrop Grumman CRS-23 mission, launching in mid-September on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, will deliver science investigations, supplies, and equipment, including materials for semiconductor crystal production and pharmaceutical research, and will remain docked to the ISS for over two months. Media accreditation for this launch is open, with a deadline on August 27. Earlier, NASA and SpaceX are targeting August 24 for the 33rd SpaceX commercial resupply mission, featuring a Dragon spacecraft carrying over 5,000 pounds of cargo including experiments on bone loss prevention, 3D printing medical implants and metal cubes, and bioprinted liver tissue; the Dragon will also demonstrate a reboost capability to maintain the station's altitude. Both missions support NASA's ongoing research in biology, biotechnology, physical sciences, and technology development, advancing space exploration goals such as Artemis lunar missions and future Mars expeditions. These efforts underscore the importance of U.S. commercial partners in maintaining a continuous and national capability to supply and conduct scientific research aboard the ISS.
