Manchester City Women defeats Chelsea 2-0 in Champions League first leg
Vivianne Miedema's two goals propelled Manchester City to a 2-0 victory over Chelsea in the first leg of their UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-final. Miedema, who came off the bench at halftime, broke the deadlock in the 60th minute after Chelsea's goalkeeper Hannah Hampton deflected a header onto the crossbar. Chelsea had moments to equalize, including a disallowed goal for offside and a shot that hit the bar, but Miedema secured City's lead with her second goal just before full-time. This defeat marked the end of Chelsea's 31-match unbeaten streak under manager Sonia Bompastor, who had previously led the team to victory in the League Cup. The second leg will take place at Stamford Bridge on March 27, where Chelsea will aim to overturn the deficit. City, now under interim manager Nick Cushing, will also face Chelsea in the Women's Super League before the Champions League rematch.
