Dodgers designate Jason Heyward
The Los Angeles Dodgers have designated veteran outfielder Jason Heyward for assignment amid a roster crunch, following the activation of Chris Taylor from the injured list. Despite a memorable pinch-hit three-run homer in his last game against the Seattle Mariners, Heyward's performance this season has been lackluster, with a batting average of .208 and a .669 OPS against right-handed pitching. The Dodgers opted to retain Kevin Kiermaier and other utility players over Heyward, who has been a respected presence in the clubhouse but struggled for playing time as the season progressed. Heyward, a former All-Star and five-time Gold Glover, is now on waivers and could be claimed by another team before the end of August. He was initially re-signed by the Dodgers for $9 million after a successful 2023 season but has faced injuries and inconsistencies in recent years.
