Delhi officials address landfill and air pollution issues

P K Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, expressed significant concerns regarding the slow progress in clearing landfill sites and the delays in implementing waste-to-energy projects in Delhi during a meeting of the High-Level Task Force aimed at addressing air pollution. He called for stricter enforcement of dust control measures at construction sites and improved waste management practices. The current challenges, including construction dust, biomass burning, and vehicle emissions, were highlighted by Delhi's Chief Secretary, especially as these factors worsen air quality during winter months. Ongoing initiatives to combat pollution include expanding the electric bus fleet and mechanized road cleaning. Mishra emphasized the need for a mission-mode approach to greening roads and pathways to reduce dust generation and urged better coordination among various government agencies. He also highlighted the importance of adhering to existing environmental laws to tackle persistent air quality issues.
