West Midlands Metro Extension Approved for Construction

The West Midlands Metro is set to expand with a £261 million extension from Dudley Town Centre to Merry Hill Shopping Centre, starting construction in January after receiving government approval. The project will include additional stops at Cinder Bank, Pedmore Road, and the Waterfront business park, aiming to enhance connectivity and stimulate economic growth in the Black Country. Funding for this initiative was confirmed by Chancellor Rachel Reeves, and the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) Board is expected to officially greenlight the plan on November 15. Mayor Richard Parker emphasized the transformative benefits for local residents and businesses, expressing confidence in the project's impact. The first phase of the Metro line is anticipated to be completed by late 2025, having faced delays due to cost pressures.
