Davis defeats Berinchik, claims WBO lightweight title
Keyshawn Davis claimed the WBO lightweight title on February 15 by knocking out Denis Berinchyk in the fourth round at Madison Square Garden, marking Berinchyk's first professional defeat. Davis showcased a dominant performance, dropping Berinchyk twice, including a decisive body shot that ended the fight at 1:45 of Round 4. Berinchyk's coach revealed that an injury prior to the match hindered his preparation, contributing to the outcome. Despite the loss, Berinchyk had been unbeaten prior to this bout, holding a record of 19-1. Davis, a silver medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, won the title in just his 14th professional fight, one of the quickest in lightweight history. The match highlighted the challenges faced by Berinchyk, as he was also knocked down earlier in the fight, in the third round.
