On Tuesday morning, two Delta Air Lines planes collided on a taxiway at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, with a larger Airbus A350 bound for Tokyo striking the tail of a Bombardier CRJ-900 regional jet preparing for takeoff to Lafayette, Louisiana. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the 221 passengers on the A350 and the 56 on the CRJ-900, and both sets of passengers were rebooked on alternate flights. The collision caused damage to the wing of the A350 and the tail of the smaller jet, but operational disruptions at the busy airport were minimal. Investigations are being conducted by Delta, the National Transportation Safety Board, and the Federal Aviation Administration. Eyewitness accounts described the impact as terrifying, with loud bangs reported during the incident. Delta has stated its commitment to fully cooperate with the investigations to determine the cause of the collision.
