PSG Signs Illia Zabarnyi for €63 Million, First Ukrainian at Club
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has completed the signing of Ukrainian defender Illia Zabarnyi from Bournemouth on a five-year contract, making him the first Ukrainian player in the club's history. The transfer fee is reported to be around 63 to 67 million euros, including bonuses, with Bournemouth receiving approximately 60 million euros and Dynamo Kyiv receiving a significant solidarity payment, marking Zabarnyi as their most expensive transfer. Zabarnyi, who made his professional debut with Dynamo Kyiv and played a key role at Bournemouth, where he was named Player of the Season in 2023-24, is known for his aggressive defending, aerial dominance, and composure. PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi praised Zabarnyi's talent and professionalism, emphasizing his importance for the club's long-term project. Zabarnyi is expected to join PSG’s training soon but will not feature in their UEFA Super Cup match against Tottenham Hotspur, with his debut anticipated later. This signing is part of a broader Bournemouth defensive overhaul, as the club has sold multiple defenders for large fees and is rebuilding its squad accordingly.
