James Melady, a former paramedic with Flagler County Fire Rescue, has been arrested and charged with sexual battery and video voyeurism after a video surfaced showing him assaulting an unconscious woman in an ambulance in October 2021. The disturbing footage, discovered during an unrelated investigation by Daytona Beach Police, led to Melady's confession and subsequent arrest. The victim, who was being transported to a hospital, was unaware of the assault until notified by detectives. Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly expressed outrage, labeling Melady a 'predator' and urging any additional victims to come forward. Melady, who retired earlier this year, is being held without bond in Volusia County jail.
