UVA All-Clear After Active Shooter Alert
Shortly after 3 p.m. Monday, the University of Virginia issued an emergency alert reporting an "ACTIVE ATTACKER with a gun" near Shannon (Edgar) Library and instructing the community to "RUN, HIDE, FIGHT." Sirens sounded across Grounds, academic buildings were placed on access control, and police and the UVA Department of Safety and Security conducted armed searches and on-scene investigations. Some witnesses and outlets reported hearing shots while authorities said gunfire had not been confirmed. At 4:45 p.m., officials issued an "ALL CLEAR," saying the investigation found no evidence of an attacker, no injuries were reported, and they are probing whether the alert was a false report. The episode echoed past campus shootings and a recent wave of hoax active-shooter reports, and the university urged the community to follow official UVA DPS channels for updates as the inquiry continues.
